New to Homeschooling?
Learning about homeschooling can be overwhelming! Don't worry. Feeling a bit lost is completely natural. Joining a support group like LHEA is a great way to start.
You'll also need to answer some basic questions.
1. Which option will you choose? Registered or enrolled? Both are great, but one may be more suitable for you. The BC Home Educators' Association has an excellent explanation of the pros and cons of each.
2. Which school will you join? Regardless of the option you choose, the Province of BC requires that you sign up with a school. See our list of local Online Learning schools to find which one is best for your family.
3. Which curriculum will you use? There are hundreds of options out there. But even the most highly touted curriculum, may not work for your child. That is the beauty (and the challenge) of homeschooling - each child has the opportunity to receive a customized education. Your Online Learning school may have some excellent suggestions. You may also want to consider reaching out to a Steering Committee member with LHEA. Send us a message and we'll do our best to point you in the right direction.
4. Which group(s) will you join? Many homeschool groups exist for a variety of purposes. Do you want to buy used curriculum? Meet other moms? Find out about local activities? See our list of groups that may interest you.

Who says homeschooling means staying at home all day? There are many local activities available during the day to home learners. Here are some ideas to get you started.
About LHEA
Langley Home Educators' Association is a Christian support group based in Langley, BC, Canada. Formerly Learning at Home in Langley, was created in 1989 to provide information, resources and support for those families who embark on the adventure of educating their children at home.
LHEA's Statement of Purpose and Policy:
1. LHEA endeavours to provide information pertinent to homeschooling with regard to legal requirements, curriculum ideas and available testing.
2. LHEA strives to provide support and encouragement to homeschooling families through monthly meetings.
3. LHEA encourages parents to share their skills and abilities with participating children and also in the ongoing operational work of the group.
4. LHEA aims at providing educational experiences for children by planning field trips and social gatherings.
5. LHEA networks with other area groups and organizations for developing area programs and events, exchanging information and ideas.
6. LHEA believes that it is important to not become exclusive, but rather to recognize various methods of homeschooling. Therefore, LHEA endeavours to provide information on known curricula, private tutors, seminars and conferences, businesses or organizations which serve homeschool families.
7. Information given by LHEA is not given as legal advice and should not take the place of legal counsel from a qualified and informed attorney.
8. LHEA seeks to uphold the integrity of the family and the right of parents to decide the education for their own children.
9. LHEA encourages parents to comply with provincial registration regulations.
10. The LHEA member list remains confidential. It is not to be used for commercial purposes.
11. Members are not required to be professing Christians, but are expected to uphold Christian principles and attitudes.
We Believe:
1. The Bible is the inspired and infallible Word of God and constitutes completed and final revelation. The Bible, in its original autograph, is without error in whole and in part, including theological concepts as well as geographical and historical details.
2. God has existed from all eternity in three beings: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ was God come in human flesh being fully God and fully man except without sin.
3. All men are in violation of God's righteous requirements and his holy character both by nature and act, and are therefore under His wrath and just condemnation. The central purpose of the coming of Jesus Christ was to pay the penalty for man's sin through His substitutionary death on the cross - the successful accomplishment of which was attested to by His subsequent visible, bodily resurrection.
4. Salvation is offered as a gift, free to the sinner. This gift must be responded to in individual faith, not trusting in any personal works whatsoever, but in the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ alone.
